(Patria) - The Institute for Research of Genocide Canada (IGK) has filed a criminal complaint against Milovan Bjelica, Mayor of Sokolac Municipality, for glorifying war criminal Radovan Karadžić, who has been convicted of genocide.
Through his actions, Milovan Bjelica, with the aim of inciting inter-ethnic intolerance, discord, and hatred, knowingly and intentionally publicly glorified the convicted war criminal Radovan Karadžić. The suspect thus caused pain to the survivors of genocide, degraded the judicial, scientific, and historical truth about genocide, belittled justice, and humiliated international law and international institutions.
The fact that Milovan Bjelica still considers Radovan Karadžić his president is just one of the many proofs of the continuity of the Greater Nationalist, extremely aggressive policy of the Serbian political, academic, and spiritual establishment in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
Such an extreme, nationalist policy, whose primary goal is the division of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is becoming an increasing danger to the region, Europe, and the world. The extreme glorification of the convicted war criminal Radovan Karadžić, who was convicted, among other things, for aggression and genocide, must be urgently sanctioned.
The Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina clearly states that anyone who glorifies, in any way, a person convicted by a final verdict for genocide, a crime against humanity, or a war crime, shall be punished with imprisonment of at least three years.
Acts of glorifying war criminals, in addition to being a criminal offense punishable under the provisions of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, cause damage to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, relations between peoples, and especially cause immense pain to the families of genocide victims.
For all the above reasons, the IGK believes that there is a well-founded suspicion that all essential elements of a criminal offense under the provisions of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been met in the public actions of Milovan Bjelica.
The IGK requests that the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina take all legally prescribed actions and activities and initiate criminal proceedings against the suspect in accordance with the Law.
