(Patria) - His Majesty King Philippe of the Belgians received
the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, in audience
as part of an official visit to the Kingdom of Belgium. This is the first meeting between the Chairman of the BiH Presidency and King Philippe, who ascended the throne in July 2013.
During a cordial conversation at the Royal Palace in Brussels, Bećirović expressed his satisfaction at the outset that this visit took place just before the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Kingdom of Belgium, and four days after the European Council's decision to open EU accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It was assessed that excellent diplomatic and political relations exist between the two countries, characterized by a high degree of understanding and mutual respect. In this context, the decision of the Kingdom of Belgium to open the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in
Sarajevo was welcomed, especially in the context of significant geostrategic developments on the European continent. Dr. Bećirović emphasized that this will contribute to the further strengthening of relations between the two countries politically and economically.
The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina highly values the principled support of the Kingdom of Belgium for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He thanked King Philippe for the support that the Kingdom of Belgium provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration, which was also confirmed by the positive decision of the European Council to open EU accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bećirović highlighted the importance of Belgium's six-month presidency of the Council of the EU and thanked for the Kingdom of Belgium's activities in the first three months of the presidency. He invited King Philippe to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina again, emphasizing that it would be an honor for all citizens and peoples in our country to once again extend hospitality to the Belgian King. King Philippe said that he cherishes special feelings towards Bosnia and Herzegovina and fondly remembers his visits to Sarajevo, Tuzla, Mostar, and Međugorje.
He emphasized that he closely follows developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region, and that
he supports the European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
