Kovačević: I believe we refuted the lies with our arguments and proved that the premise of the political system in BiH is wrong!

(Patria) - My team and I are satisfied that our arguments were much stronger than those of the opposing side, said appellant Slaven Kovačević as his first impression after the conclusion of the hearing before the European Court of Human Rights.

"We offered more quality arguments. Unfortunately, I lived in the belief that it is not nice to lie, but the other side used such a type of manipulation that they wanted to lead the Court astray, we noticed that in time and of course did not allow it. What is interesting is that I think we managed to prove that the political system of Bosnia and Herzegovina based on ethnicity is wrong," said Kovačević for Istraga.ba.

He added that bad practices cannot be used as good examples.

"And what is most important to me, I think we achieved the goal, which is that we defended the judgment Kovačević vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina in a quality way at this moment. I firmly believe that it will be positive, although in such matters one should remain somewhat reserved, but I think that after today's arguments it should be in my favor," emphasized Kovačević.

Regarding the arguments of Monika Mijić, as the agent of BiH, Kovačević says: "There was an attempt to link active voting rights with ethnicity, which cannot and must not be in modern democracies."

"Their attempt was to divert the story that ethnic identity is what determines someone's status of active voting rights. That is incredible to me, that is not European standards, that is not the European Convention, but I think we prevented that in time. And what particularly fascinates me is so much false argumentation, so many untruths they uttered. But, perhaps people think that the Court is a place where one should lie, I think the Court is a place where one should tell the truth," stated Kovačević.
