Košarac requested urgent information on the functioning of electricity capacities

(Patria) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac requested urgent information on the functioning of electricity capacities from key institutions that make up the electricity sector in BiH.

"Due to the new circumstances and market disruptions caused by the spread of the coronavirus, we must continuously communicate with the key institutions that make up the electricity sector at the level of BiH, Republika Srpska, Federation of BiH, and Brčko District, in order to propose and undertake timely and necessary measures for the uninterrupted operation of production facilities, the transmission and distribution network, and the normalization of electricity supply to the market, in order to overcome the observed market disruptions and avoid negative consequences," said Minister Košarac.

Minister Košarac requested information on the reliability of all production capacities in Elektroprivreda BiH, Elektroprivreda Republika Srpska, and Elektroprivreda HZHB, as well as in EFT Rudnik and Termoelektrana Stanari, along with information on daily production from thermal, hydro, and other electricity sources, and the daily electricity consumption of all categories of consumers.

Information was also requested on surplus electricity balances and their placement (sale) on markets outside BiH, specifically under what conditions and in which foreign markets the placement is taking place, as well as on the operational readiness and reliability of the transmission network in BiH and the capacity of Elektroprenos BiH to meet all demands of BiH production facilities for high-voltage electricity transmission.

Data on electricity transmission for domestic consumption in BiH were also requested from the competent institutions, with a focus on potential electricity exports, and information on the mutual relations between DERK, NOS, Elektroprenos BiH, and transmission network users under normal operating conditions and emergency conditions/situations, with a focus on any planned actions in emergency situations that require rapid action and may lead to deviations from market rules.

"After analyzing and reviewing the information from all key actors in the electricity sector, we will proceed with consultations and coordination with relevant institutions in order to take the necessary preventive and reactive measures in a timely manner that will ensure the stability and functioning of the electricity system in BiH," emphasized Minister Košarac.
