KORIĆANSKE STIJENE: 32nd anniversary of the shooting of 224 prisoners marked

(Patria) - Today marks the 32nd anniversary of the horrific crime at Korićanske Stijene on Mount Vlašić, when 224 prisoners of Bosniak and Croatian nationality were shot.

The commemoration begins at 10 a.m., and the organisers are members of the Association of Prisoners in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Regional Association of Prisoners' Associations of the Banja Luka region, the Association of Prisoners "Prijedor `92.", the Association of Prisoners Kozarac, and the Association of Families of the Killed and Missing “Vrbanja - Kotor Varoš” Travnik.

On that 21 August 1992, men who had been detained in Prijedor camps were lined up at Korićanske Stijene by members of the then RS police from Prijedor, under the pretext of an exchange.

Twelve people survived the shooting, and their testimonies contributed to the perpetrators being sentenced to multi-year prison terms.

For the crime at Korićanske Stijene, the following were sentenced before the Hague Tribunal and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina: Darko Mrđa to 17 years in prison, Damir Ivanković to 14 years, Gordan Đurić to eight years, Ljubiša Četić to 13 years, Zoran Babić to 22 years, Milorad Škrbić to 21 years, Dušan Janković to 21 years, Željko Stojnić to 15 years, Saša Zečević to 23 years, Marinko Lepoja to 23 years, and Radoslav Knežević to 23 years in prison.
