Konjic left to its own devices: No epidemiologist, infectious disease ward, or tests

(Patria) - Konjic is the municipality with the highest number of infected persons (17) with coronavirus in the FBiH, and one death has been recorded. Besides coronavirus, the citizens of Konjic are also facing a lack of support from HNK, the canton to which the municipality of Konjic belongs.

Although Konjic is at the epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic, the Crisis Staff of Konjic and the medical staff of the General Hospital Konjic are left to their own devices without any help from the cantonal authorities from Mostar, and SKB Mostar, which is also financed by the money of the citizens of Konjic.

The Municipal Civil Protection Staff of Konjic informed SKB Mostar that they lack tests for testing people, even though they are the municipality with the highest number of infected and thus potentially infected individuals. Also, the Municipal Civil Protection Staff of Konjic demands that SKB Mostar first send all information about the number of tested individuals and their results to the Health Center and the Civil Protection Staff in Konjic.

Furthermore, the Municipal Civil Protection Staff of Konjic has requested the Federal Civil Protection Staff to provide the Konjic hospital with additional epidemiological staff, given that the only employed epidemiologist at the Health Center Konjic was issued a self-isolation order on March 24 due to contact with a person positive for coronavirus.

Konjic currently has 17 people infected with coronavirus, and the Municipal Civil Protection Staff expects this number to increase in the coming period due to contacts, so they are requesting urgent assistance from the federal staff, given that no tests have been conducted for three days due to a lack of equipment.

Adequate equipment for the staff who will be engaged at Motel Konjic, which has been repurposed into a makeshift hospital, is urgently requested from the Federal Civil Protection Staff. It is also necessary to establish an infectious disease ward at the Konjic Health Center, as it does not exist, and consequently, an infectious disease specialist is needed.
