Konaković hosted successful athletes, the Muhović brothers

KS Prime Minister Elmedin Konaković today received Meris Muhović, winner of the silver medal at the European Senior Karate Championship, and his coach, selector, and brother, Denis Muhović, reports the bh. news agency Patria.

Denis Muhović, coach and vice-president of the Karate Association of BiH, former BiH national karate player and a European gold medalist himself, stated that with greater attention and investment in any sport, less money would certainly be directed towards treating drug addiction and other dependencies.

- Together, we need to create an image that it is worthwhile to engage in sports, that the support for these persistent young people, who mostly train in inadequate facilities, will certainly be justified - said Muhović, who, in addition to the national team, also leads the Champion Karate Club from Ilidža, of which Meris is a member, and which brings together more than 500 members of all ages.

He emphasized that without the financial support of the Canton and the relevant Ministry of Culture and Sports, the club and the national team would not have these young people participating in competitions at all levels.

Along with presenting the European vice-champion with a symbolic monetary award and expressing wishes for success in further competitions, the Prime Minister also commented on the circumstances in which our athletes operate on their path to the best results:

- Support for successful athletes is not in question for the Canton of Sarajevo. Here, twice as much is allocated for representative sports as the BiH state and the Federation do together. Unfortunately, sport is not recognized here as a branch of successful business, as everywhere in the world, it serves not only for promotion but also for generating profit from which the state should certainly benefit - stated Konaković.

He expressed the expectation that through the organization of the tourism sector and the realization of revenues by the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton, as is the practice in other countries, significant sports events and gatherings in Sarajevo could be financed.
