Konaković on Sarajevo Canton Health Insurance Fund: Insured persons must have better healthcare

The Government of Sarajevo Canton is taking full control of this part of the system, and we have established that the methodology used so far is not ideal, and that the Government and Assembly of Sarajevo Canton did not have the role prescribed by law, said Prime Minister Elmedin Konaković about the Health Insurance Fund, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

- The financial plan is not in line with the policies we plan to implement in providing health services, and that is why we discussed its rebalancing, which we will prepare together. Our goal is the reform and reorganization of the healthcare system in Sarajevo Canton, because we want our insured persons to have better healthcare – said Konaković.

He held a meeting with the management at the Health Insurance Fund today, attended by the Minister of Health Emira Tanović-Mikulec, and the ministers for veterans' affairs and spatial planning, construction, and environmental protection Muherem Fišo and Čedomir Lukić.

The Director of the Sarajevo Canton Health Insurance Fund Kenan Crnkić expressed his readiness to follow the vision of the new Government of Sarajevo Canton, but that they need to take responsibility.

He emphasized that the Government and Assembly of Sarajevo Canton cannot absolve them of responsibility if they operate against the law, because the Fund operates exclusively in accordance with the law.

He pointed out that the Fund is a stable entity in Sarajevo Canton and that it would have been better if they had been consulted when adopting certain acts, because the issues they warned about have public resonance.

Konaković announced that the work of every employee of the Fund, as well as the director, members of the Management Board and Supervisory Board, will be seriously analyzed, and it will be determined what was done in the past year.

- The Management Board of the Fund met four or six times in the past year, of which four sessions were by phone. The financial plan was also approved at a phone session – explained Prime Minister Konaković.

Minister of Health Emira Tanović-Mikulec emphasized that the Fund's Financial Plan was methodologically incomplete and non-transparent, so certain interventions had to be made, all with the aim of creating an efficient and functional healthcare system in Sarajevo Canton and the necessary conditions for its complete evaluation, monitoring, and supervision.

She added that the Ministry will insist on higher quality healthcare in Sarajevo Canton, as well as on maintaining the existing level of rights for insured persons in Sarajevo Canton, which is the highest in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
