Konaković on Reconstruction of the KS Government: We Could Do It Tomorrow, but This Is Not the Time

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – We could carry out the reconstruction tomorrow if the situation in the country were not so serious and if it would not cause a new political earthquake that would further complicate the situation in the country, said Elmedin Konaković, president of the People and Justice party, for the Patria News Agency, regarding the possible reconstruction of the Government of the Sarajevo Canton, which consists of SDA, SBB, DF and BOSS. 

We recall that the Government of Edin Forto, which consisted of Our Party, People and Justice, SDP BiH, NBL, SBB and DF, collapsed after the coalition of SBB and DF with SDA. The reconstruction of the KS Government lasted from mid-December 2019 until March 3, 2020, when a new KS Government was appointed, headed by Prime Minister Mario Nenadić. The narrow majority in the Assembly that the new government has, with 18 votes, has been very questionable at the last few sessions, and some decisions were not even passed because some SDA representatives voted differently, rather than unanimously as needed to adopt certain decisions.  

“At this moment, we are focused on the local elections, all our efforts are directed towards that. As a constructive opposition, we have been at the disposal of these authorities to make things better in the Sarajevo Canton, the Federation and the state, offering solutions, but they rejected them. Removing such an inefficient government is the least of the problems, but the process of forming a new one, the delays, the two or three months we would spend in legal procedures for the removal at this moment would be detrimental to the citizens. You would be surprised which representatives and which political parties are already calling on us to do that. We are not opening those cards too quickly, and that is not our current focus,” said Konaković. 

The president of NIP emphasizes that they are now focused on the local elections, and a joint appearance has been agreed with three other parties: SDP BiH, Our Party and NBL.

“Our focus is to start from the foundations, from the local elections there will be a thorough change in society. Because even some good mayors who do not do a bad job are actually the foundation of this corrupt system at the top of which the married couple Izetbegović and their satellites enjoy. Mayors and councils are perhaps the most important at this moment; once we take that away from them, we will very quickly change this government or maybe even before that. We will see,” said Konaković for NAP.
