(Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić met in New York with Chaloka Beyani, the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide.
Chairman of the BiH Presidency Komšić thanked Beyani for everything the Office of the Special Adviser does, particularly for the support provided during the adoption of the Resolution on the Srebrenica Genocide in the UN General Assembly.
He emphasized the importance of the international community maintaining a clear and decisive stance in condemning genocide, recalling that after the Holocaust, humanity believed such crimes would never be repeated. Yet, genocide was committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and unfortunately, today we are witnessing its repetition in Gaza.
It was stressed that the prevention of genocide must not be merely a political issue, but also a matter of civilizational values that define every thinking human being. Finally, Chairman of the BiH Presidency Komšić stated that the best path toward preventing genocide is truth – no matter how difficult and bitter it may be.
Special Adviser Beyani said he had previously visited Bosnia and Herzegovina and was familiar with the developments in our country, emphasizing that this further obligates his office to continue providing support to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also expressed readiness for further cooperation in strengthening international mechanisms for the prevention of genocide and cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After the meeting with the Special Adviser, Chairman of the BiH Presidency Komšić attended the International Conference "Question of Palestine and Implementation of the Two-State Solution" organized by the President of France and the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
