Komšić receives recipients of the "Nino Ćatić" journalism award

(Patria) - The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić, today received the recipients of the "Nino Ćatić" journalism award, with whom he discussed the role and mission of the media in spreading the truth, nurturing civilizational values and the culture of remembrance, and the institutionalization of memorialization.

In the context of the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the paramount role of the media in protecting the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica and other war crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the aggression (1992-1995) was highlighted.

Chairman Komšić congratulated the recipients of the prestigious journalism award, emphasizing on this occasion that, first and foremost, we must cherish the memory of the exceptional personality, human and professional qualities that characterized Nino Ćatić, whose last report from Srebrenica will never be forgotten.

He stated that he was a man who, through his own engagement, testified to his responsibility towards his work/profession, as well as his responsibility towards the people and the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Komšić assessed it as significant that this award continues to live beyond the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica and everything that happened there is nurtured and spread regionally and more broadly, in the context of promoting fundamental civilizational values, solidarity, and empathy.

– This is, in fact, an award dedicated to all good people of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and even the entire region – Komšić said.

Emina Hodžić, on behalf of the Initiative Committee for the establishment of the "Nino Ćatić" award, reminded that its presentation has been organized for the fourth year in a row with the support of the members of the Presidency of BiH.

She expressed satisfaction with the successful engagement in this regard, especially with the fact that people from outside BiH apply for the "Nino Ćatić" award and spread the truth, contributing to changing public opinion in neighboring countries.

Nataša Tadić, a journalist from Tuzla, is the recipient of the Award for the best TV report about the fate of two mothers from Srebrenica who lost all male family members in the Srebrenica genocide and who are currently residents of a home for the elderly.

– In about three minutes of my report, I conveyed all the hardship of the lives of all the mothers from Srebrenica who were left alone after the genocide in Srebrenica – Tadić said, emphasizing that this is a time when we need to talk about it as loudly as possible because the genocide is increasingly being denied.

At the same time, she stated that perpetrators and crimes must be condemned, and that a victim is a victim, and a perpetrator is a perpetrator, and there is no discussion about that.

This year, the "Nino Ćatić" awards were presented in five categories, along with special jury awards.

The "Nino Ćatić" award is named after a poet, journalist, and war correspondent who, on the fateful July 10, 1995, sent his last report from Srebrenica via radio link.
