Komšić: We must not forget our heroes Čedo and Smajo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić attended today the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the deaths of Čedomir Čedo Domuz and Smajo Some. On that occasion, Komšić laid flowers at the Brezovača memorial on Igman and delivered a short speech in memory of the heroes who defended Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In his address, Komšić said that we must never forget everything that Čedo and Smajo did for the defense of Igman, in the crucial moments of organizing the defense, all the way to their premature and tragic deaths in the operation to liberate Trnovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"They were simple and good people who loved their city, their homeland, and the people living in it. When the war started, they did not care about the consequences, but together with their comrades they fought for the freedom of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the freedom of all of us who live in it. It pains me when people like Čedomir and Smajo are not given enough recognition for what they did. We must not allow their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of all brave people who lost their lives during the past war, to be in vain. Insufficient attention is also paid to their families, their children. Today they are grown people, like the children of our Čedo. Today, with their knowledge, effort and work, they contribute to a better Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in that way they defy those who would still like it to be different.

That is why we must not forget Čedo and Smajo. We must not forget the people who gave their lives for the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the people who enabled us to live in peace today. They were heroes of a difficult and decisive time in the history of our country, and for that we owe them eternal gratitude," said Komšić.

The commemoration of the 27th anniversary was attended by family members, representatives of the authorities, veterans' associations, and citizens who laid flowers at the Brezovača memorial.
