Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments' mandate expired in 2012

The mandate of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments of BiH expired five years ago in 2012, writes the Patria News Agency.

Precisely because of this, SNSD MP Lazar Prodanović requested an answer from the competent minister as to who the members of this Commission are and when the Council of Ministers will take over the competencies of this body. Namely, the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments was established by Annex 8 of the Dayton Peace Agreement, and it is appointed by the Presidency of BiH.

Adil Osmanović, Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH, stated that the members were appointed by a decision of the Presidency of BiH in 2007 and consist of Amra Hadžimuhamedović, Dubravko Lovrenović, Ljiljana Ševo, Tina Wik, and Andras J. Riedlmayer.

- The Council of Ministers will react when the Presidency of BiH makes a decision on this matter, and then we can take over the competencies of this commission - says Osmanović.

Otherwise, Annex 8, Article 2, specifies that the Commission is composed of five members.

- Within 90 days of the entry into force of this Agreement, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina shall appoint two, and Republika Srpska one member, each with a three-year term. The Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) shall appoint the remaining members, each with a five-year term, and shall designate one of them as chairperson. Members of the Commission may be reappointed. A person serving a sentence imposed by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, or a person against whom that Tribunal has issued an indictment and who has not responded to a summons to appear before that Tribunal, cannot be a member of the Commission - explained Osmanović.
