(Patria) - UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk condemned Russia's repeated attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities and added that he fears for the civilians there this winter, reports RSE.
Türk said that the population is "trapped in cycles of terror, through constant Russian attacks on civilian objects such as hospitals, schools and supermarkets, and repeated waves of targeting energy infrastructure that lead to power outages across the country".
- I fear for Ukrainians in the coming winter - Türk told the UN Human Rights Council yesterday.
He also added that he is concerned about the impact of the recent escalation of fighting on civilians, including in the Russian region of Kursk.
Ukrainian forces made a major breakthrough into the region bordering Ukraine on August 6.
Türk says Moscow rejected his office's request last month for access to conflict-affected areas of Russia, including Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk.
