Canton SDA HNK: Support for the construction of the 'Mevlana' center, Mostar City Administration should eliminate parallel structures

(Patria) - The Cantonal Organization of the Party of Democratic Action of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (KO SDA HNK) on Sunday expressed "full support for the construction of the Intercultural Center Mevlana in Mostar".

KO SDA believes that this project, in its name and idea, "promotes the values of cultural and civilizational heritage, respect for diversity and multiculturalism, peace and security, as well as fundamental rights and freedoms, which represent the foundations of the European Union."

"Commitment to European integration, which is sought by representatives of all peoples living in Bosnia and Herzegovina, can be most simply expressed and proven in Mostar. And precisely at a time when BiH needs to undertake reforms that would enable the opening of negotiations for full membership in the European Union," they stated in the press release.

They asked the City of Mostar to "eliminate all forms of parallel structures and exclusivity" by its example.

"We believe that one of the fundamental postulates of Mostar must be connection, not the restriction of any people in realizing the needs and undeniable rights they have. We will insist on equality, an initial European value that must not be denied to anyone," said KO SDA.

They reminded that the basic idea of European administration in Mostar after the end of the conflict was precisely that the Central Zone must fundamentally be a meeting place for all peoples, an interactive multicultural place that will be the nucleus of the city's further development.

"Therefore, the Mostar City Administration should understand the Intercultural Center Mevlana project as a compromise solution of the Islamic Community of Mostar, and should offer a solution for the Central Zone of the city that includes all peoples living in Mostar on an equal footing," they concluded in the press release.
