Who will light the Olympic flame at the EYOF opening ceremony

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – It is still unknown who will light the Olympic flame during the opening ceremony of the 14th European Youth Olympic Festival at the Asim Ferhatović Hase Stadium.

According to unofficial information, there are several potential names, all of whom are top athletes from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The name of the athlete who will have the honour of lighting the Olympic flame, which was lit 35 years ago by Croatian figure skater Sanda Dubravčić at the opening of the 14th Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, will be kept secret almost until the very start of the EYOF.

On Saturday, 9 February, delegations with athletes, coaches and other team members, as well as numerous media crews that will follow the competitors at the venues, will arrive in Sarajevo. One of the larger teams is from Switzerland, which has as many as 58 competitors in all eight disciplines. The team from Great Britain has 27 competitors, Italy 38. Teams from Slovenia, Ireland, the region are eagerly awaiting their arrival in Sarajevo, and 46 countries have confirmed their participation. Bosnia and Herzegovina will be represented by 21 competitors in five sports. Competitors will compete in eight disciplines at several venues on Jahorina, Igman, Bjelašnica, halls in Pale, Skenderija and Juan Antonio Samaranch (Zetra).

It is certain that these seven days will be an opportunity to send a message of peace, tolerance, togetherness, and a beautiful success story from Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, just like 35 years ago.

The mayors of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, as hosts to thousands of guests who will be arriving in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming days, said that great and positive stories can only be created if there is interest and will.
The most beautiful story will be told on 10 February at the opening of the EYOF, but also throughout all the competition days.
