China granted passage through Strait of Hormuz with Tehran's approval

(Patria) - Iran has begun allowing passage for Chinese ships through the Strait of Hormuz, the semi-official Fars news agency reported, citing an “informed source”.

According to the source, the arrangement was reached based on the “deep relations” and “strategic partnership” between Iran and China, following an “understanding of Iranian protocols for managing the strait”.

As reported by Al Jazeera, the report comes after maritime traffic data showed that several cargo ships and tankers linked to China, including the crude oil tanker Yuan Hua Hu, passed through Hormuz on Wednesday.

Iranian state television IRIB reported, citing the Navy of the Revolutionary Guard, that about 30 ships had passed through the Strait of Hormuz with Iran's approval since Wednesday evening.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important maritime routes in the world, as a significant portion of global oil and energy trade passes through it.

Iranian media claim that Chinese ships are passing according to “Iranian management protocols”, but it is unclear whether such a regime also applies to vessels of other countries.

There is no official confirmation from Chinese authorities yet regarding the alleged agreement with Tehran.
