LONDON, (Patria) - The Archbishop of Westminster and President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, met today with survivors of the Srebrenica genocide, the Mothers of Srebrenica, survivors from Prijedor, and members of the British NGO Remembering Srebrenica.
The official Twitter account of the Catholic Church announced that the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide will be commemorated this evening at Guildhall in London, reports the Patria news agency.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, earlier also reminded on Twitter that this week “we remember the 8,372 Bosnian Muslims, men and boys, who were killed in Srebrenica in 1995, and all those who mourn them.”
“We who follow Jesus, the Prince of Peace, must reject hatred and discrimination, especially when they appear in the name of the Christian faith,” wrote Bishop Welby.
The remains of 33 victims killed in the Srebrenica genocide in July 1995 will be buried at the Potočari Memorial Centre on 11 July.
So far, just over 6,600 genocide victims have been buried in Potočari. For some victims, only a single bone has been found, so families do not wish to bury them, hoping to find more, while around 1,000 of the killed are still being searched for, but without success.
