Catholics mark All Saints' Day today

Catholics celebrate All Saints' Day today, writes Patria News Agency.

All Saints' Day is a holiday in the Roman Catholic Church, celebrating all saints, both those who have already been canonized and those who have not yet.

It is celebrated on November 1st. In Orthodox churches, this holiday is celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost, marking the end of the Easter part of the liturgical year.

The commemoration of martyrs, common to various churches, began to be celebrated from the 4th century. The first traces of a general celebration of All Saints' Day were recorded first in Antioch, specifically on the Sunday after Pentecost.

In the Catholic Church calendar, All Saints' Day is marked as a solemnity and is also a non-working day in many countries with a predominantly Catholic population.

Among the people, this holiday is usually associated with visiting cemeteries and tidying graves, and thus remembering the deceased. However, in the Church, the Commemoration of all the faithful departed, or All Souls' Day, is observed the day after, on November 2nd.

Besides the Catholic Church, this holiday is also observed in the Church of England, as well as in many Protestant churches.

All Souls' Day or the Commemoration of all the faithful departed is considered an expression of hope and faith in the afterlife, or eternal life.
