(Patria) - At least 33 people have been killed and 27 injured in major floods caused by seasonal rains in Afghanistan, a Taliban official said yesterday.
A spokesman for the Taliban's Ministry of Disaster Management said yesterday that flash floods had hit the capital Kabul and several other provinces, with western Farah, Herat, Zabul and Kandahar suffering the most damage.
According to him, more than 600 houses were either severely damaged or completely destroyed, while about 200 head of livestock died.
He added that about 800 hectares of arable land and more than 85 kilometres of roads were damaged in the floods.
The meteorological service warned that more rain is expected in most of the 34 Afghan provinces in the coming days.
