(Patria) – War-torn Yemen reported its first case of coronavirus infection in the Hadhramaut province, the country's national emergency commission announced, adding that the patient is stable and receiving necessary care.
The UN and Western countries have warned since the beginning of the pandemic that coronavirus in the war-weakened country, plagued by hunger and poverty, would cause a 'catastrophe'.
A day earlier, under pressure from the UN and some Western countries, a two-week ceasefire agreement was reached between the Saudi-led coalition and the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
If an adequate political solution is found, the ceasefire could lead to the end of the five-year war that has caused starvation for millions of inhabitants and claimed more than 100,000 lives.
