(Patria) - Fires that have been raging across Herzegovina for days, threatening populated areas, have finally been under control since last night by firefighting teams and volunteers who, nevertheless, remained on standby all night, aware that the night is unpredictable and that the danger of wind, which can instantly reignite the firestorm, lurks.
Rain is expected to bring relief to those battling the firestorm. Due to the inaccessible and mined terrain, a helicopter of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina intervened on several occasions in Mostar, as well as in the area of the Prozor-Rama municipality, where firefighting teams are also keeping the fires under control.
An interesting photograph was taken by volunteer Muamer Brekalo, who found a pine tree at the site of the fire, an endemic species and one of the greatest losses from the recent blaze. The surviving pine tree bears a sign indicating that the area is mined, prompting firefighters and volunteers to joke that the fire was afraid of the mines.
Firefighters are also keeping fires under control in Konjic, where three Air Tractors from Montenegro assisted in extinguishing the flames from the air, arriving to help due to the dramatic situation at the fire sites in that region.
