How Patria's cartoonist Zijad Karahmetović sees the fight for the Bosnian language

The latest statement by the Vice President of the BiH entity Republika Srpska, Ramiz Salkić, that the name 'language of the Bosniak people' is acceptable only on condition that the Serbian and Croatian languages are also called the languages of the Serbian and Croatian peoples has sparked sharp reactions among Bosniaks, writes the news agency Patria.

The association 'Friends of BH' warned that any threat to the name 'Bosnian language' is an attack on Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e., the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that those who do so in any way must bear the consequences regardless of which people they come from.

The authorities in the BiH entity Republika Srpska have for some time been trying to abolish the name 'Bosnian language' and instead introduce the name 'Bosniak language' or 'language of the Bosniak people', which, legal experts claim, constitutes a violation of the BiH Constitution.

Cartoonist Zijad Karahmetović also joked about the statement by RS Vice President Salkić.

- Immanuel Kant makes a distinction between what has a price and what has dignity. Dignity has no equivalent, therefore it has no price, it is priceless... it cannot be traded - says Karahmetović and jokingly wonders if there is anyone among BiH intellectuals who could explain this to local politicians, so that a cartoonist and VK chemist Zijo doesn't have to explain it, writes Patria.
