Kakanj will be the first municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina to build underground waste containers, following the example of developed European cities, writes the Patria news agency. Underground containers will be installed next year first in the city core, and later in other parts of Kakanj.
Citizens will be able to deposit waste into the container, but only workers from the utility company will be able to remove waste from the container.
Authorities in the Kakanj Municipality explain that the town with underground containers will be much more beautiful than it is now, because this will prevent waste from being scattered on the streets.
Spokesperson for the Kakanj Municipality, Evelin Memić, told the Bosnian news agency Patria that the authorities had previously appealed to citizens to stop dumping garbage around the containers, as it creates a bad image of the town, but those appeals were unsuccessful. Underground containers will be the right solution to these problems, writes NAP.
