(Patria) - Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH Milanko Kajganić spoke at today's press conference about the work of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, as well as other issues that are currently in the public focus.
Kajganić emphasized that the focus of work this year is on cases of organized crime, high corruption, as well as indictments in the cases of Nenad Nešić, Zoran Galić...
Speaking about personnel changes, Kajganić stated that he had not dismissed anyone but had reassigned prosecutors to other departments in order to direct the capacities of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH towards the most significant cases of organized crime.
Regarding the updating of cases related to the Indirect Taxation Authority, Kajganić welcomed the series of public hearings before the Commission for Combating Corruption and announced that the head of the Corruption Department and another prosecutor will respond to the hearing on March 17 to explain the activities they have undertaken in these cases.
“I also expressed my satisfaction to the members of the Commission regarding the fact that public hearings are being held and invited them to submit everything they collect to us for processing,” said the Chief Prosecutor.
He invited all those who believe he has violated something to contact the Disciplinary Prosecutor's Office.
“If they conclude that I have violated certain norms, I will no longer be in this position,” he said.
Kajganić openly stated that information about him being reported to the DPO is appearing in the media, but that he has no information about when these cases are concluded and when the allegations in the reports are dismissed.
He maintained his claim that the TCMS assigns cases to prosecutors and that he has no insight into these cases.
When asked about the “Vila” case, which relates to the purchase of a villa in Dedinje owned by Milorad Dodik, Kajganić said that a number of prosecutors have handled this case and that a prosecutorial decision has not yet been made.
“Every time I asked, they told me that the problem was the non-transfer of evidence through international legal assistance from Serbia. This case will remain in the Corruption Department. We are waiting for six new prosecutors. At least two will be in the Corruption Department,” Kajganić pointed out.
Speaking about high corruption cases, he reiterated that no reports of committed criminal offenses for high corruption have been submitted.
“In cases of organized crime, the organizers have become unavailable to investigative bodies.”
He pointed out that this happened in the case of Zoran Galić, who illegally crossed the border and fled to Croatia after the Prosecutor's Office issued an order for his apprehension.
“We are trying to prevent information from our cases from leaking to the public, as this has helped the suspects. Information leaks in both directions. One portal published our order for a financial investigation, and those individuals did not know they were subject to a financial investigation, thus helping them hide their assets. And when we issue arrest warrants, this information somehow reaches the suspects,” said Kajganić.
He also spoke about the transfers of prosecutors who had filed disciplinary and criminal charges against him, and maintained his claim that he wants to strengthen the capacities of the departments.
When asked why prosecutor Džermin Pašić was transferred to War Crimes, he said that Pašić had previously worked in that department and filed indictments that resulted in convictions. He confirmed that Pašić had been reported to the DPO for violations related to official notes from some cases he handled.
Regarding the blockade of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament, Kajganić, in response to a journalist's question, stated that the Prosecutor's Office has no jurisdiction over the legislative branch.
“We are a repressive body and we act when there is evidence that a criminal offense has been committed. It is illusory for anyone to expect the Prosecutor's Office of BiH to solve political problems,” said Kajganić.
He confirmed that the Prosecutor's Office of BiH also acts in cases of participation of BiH citizens in foreign battlefields.
Otherwise, there was great media interest in this press conference, but those who do their job via mobile phones and accompanying equipment were prevented from entering the press conference because all visitors must leave their mobile phones before entering the building of the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of BiH.
