Kajan calls for urgent session of the Security Commission due to deteriorating security situation in Stolac, Mostar, Čapljina

(Patria) - Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, Sanel Kajan (DF), today sent an official initiative for an urgent session of the Security Commission due to the dramatic deterioration of the security situation in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK).

'The initiative comes as a direct reaction to a series of coordinated attacks by hooligan groups on civilians and travelers in Stolac, Mostar, and Čapljina, which have recently caused justified fear and public unrest,' Kajan stated.

Kajan demands an urgent statement from the competent institutions with the mandatory presence of the leadership of the Federal Police Administration (FUP) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of HNK.

'In recent months, we have witnessed a series of brutal attacks that have seriously shaken the sense of security of citizens in the southern part of the Federation of BiH. Incidents involving the interception of vehicles on main roads, physical attacks on returnees in Stolac, and organized riots in Mostar and Čapljina can no longer be treated as isolated cases of hooliganism,' the justification for the initiative states.

In the document, he specified four key reasons for urgent action: targeting civilians and returnees - the aim of the attacks is to intimidate certain population groups; endangering freedom of movement - intercepting vehicles on public roads directly violates basic human rights; lack of adequate response - lenient penalty policies and prosecuting attackers solely through misdemeanor charges encourage further violence; and glorification of war criminals - the unacceptability of hate murals and graffiti on public and private surfaces was highlighted.

Kajan proposes that the Security Commission adopt concrete conclusions, including: submitting a detailed report on all unsolved attacks in HNK in the last 12 months; introducing mixed patrols of FUP and MUP of HNK on critical routes, and stricter qualification of offenses. Suggestions to prosecutors that these incidents be treated as criminal offenses of inciting national intolerance and endangering security, rather than as a simple disturbance of public order and peace.

'Security must not be held hostage by political inertia or the inefficiency of police structures. The Parliament of the Federation of BiH must show that the south of the country is not left to itself and that the institutions are capable of protecting every citizen, regardless of where they are,' Kajan concluded in his letter.
