(Patria) - During the event marking the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Jajce, HVO General Stanko Sopta interrupted his speech and the entire ceremony to wait for the adhan from a nearby mosque.
Bosnian media followed with compliments for Sopta, and social networks literally burned with likes and support for the HVO general. To such an extent that the fact that Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković called Jajce a "Croatian city" in his speech was completely overshadowed. There were no condemnations; they are saved for Aleksandar Vulin when he calls Banja Luka "Serbian".
But, let's return to Sopta. Media reports state that Sopta, known by the nickname "Stari" (Old Man), was the commander of the 2nd Guards Brigade of HVO "Knez Domagoj", one of the most organized units during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. "Among the soldiers, he enjoyed the reputation of a commander 'who goes into the trenches first', which earned him loyalty and respect. His military career is linked to direct field operations, without political influence," it is stated.
However, Sopta is not just that. Besides being better known by the nickname Baja, what was not said is that Stanko Sopta is a man on the American blacklist, writes vijesti.ba.
Finally, for those who have forgotten. The HVO parade on January 9, 1996, in Mostar at the seized Velež stadium under Bijeli Brijeg. It was led by Stanko Sopta, the man from the beginning of this text.
At that time, Baja, by bringing tanks immediately after the war, tried to instill fear in the surviving "partners", non-Croats in Mostar.
