Jure Franko and Slovenian President Pirc-Musar Open Ski Slope 'Jure Franko' on Bjelašnica

(Patria) - The ski slope on Bjelašnica today officially received a new name after the medal winner at the 1984 Winter Olympic Games, Jure Franko.

“Now that I am three times older, it is much clearer to me what all could have gone wrong. If the snow hadn't fallen and if it hadn't been for your enthusiasm, effort and improvisation, everything would not have been accomplished when the snow fell overnight unexpectedly. It was a joint victory. And I have a memory of that victory – a medal that was born on this slope,” said Jure Franko.

He stated that it is a shared medal that he only keeps for all of us.

He also called on stage his friend, for whom he says he would not be here without him – Bojan Križaj. He also called on Slovenia to name some of its slopes after skiers.

He also noted that he will return to Sarajevo when there is snow.

“The equipment is here and I am ready,” he said.

This ceremonial event was also attended by the President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar, who has been in BiH since yesterday, the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Johann Sattler, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Elmedin Konaković, the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk, the Mayor of Sarajevo Benjamina Karić, and numerous guests.

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, confirmed her commitment to promoting sport as a driver of social cohesion and development. She emphasized the need for continuous investment in sports infrastructure and programs to nurture the talents of future generations.

“This was an exceptional sporting event that united all of us. The Olympic Games represented tolerance and unity. Our athletes proudly represented our country and our flag. Right here, at this place, was that event when Jure Franko carried the flag of our country and was a symbol of unity and pride in the former Yugoslavia,” said Nataša Pirc Musar.
