(Patria) - The Jewish diplomatic corps at the World Jewish Congress in New York paid tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, when in July 1995 Serbian forces killed more than 8,000 Bosniaks. Among the victims were men, as well as women and children.
“For all of us, it is vital to remember, to support communities in their pain, and to teach future generations about the horrors of the past in order to build a better and more tolerant future,” they stated from the Jewish Diplomatic Corps.
At the cemetery of the Potočari Memorial Center, 33 Srebrenica victims were buried yesterday, killed during July 1995 in the attack by Serbian forces on the UN safe zone in Srebrenica.
The youngest victim buried this year is Osman Cvrk, who was killed when he was 16 years old. The oldest victim is Šaha Cvrk, who was 81 years old.
At the cemetery of the Potočari Memorial Center, 6,643 Srebrenica victims have been buried to date. The remains of more than a thousand missing persons are still being sought, while around 800 are not wanted to be buried by families because only one or a few bones have been found and identified.
