(Patria) - The Jewish Community of Sarajevo issued a press release regarding last night's event at the Golden Cube nightclub in Mostar.
"Last night in Mostar, at the Golden Cube nightclub, during a carnival party, an extremely inappropriate performance was staged. A group of young people appeared on stage in Nazi uniforms, using Nazi iconography and salutes, while those gathered sang and danced.
Such an act cannot be justified by the context of carnival or any kind of 'entertainment.'
It is particularly concerning that such an event occurs at a time of rising antisemitism, not only in the world but also in our shared homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina – a country we consider the homeland of all its citizens and peoples.
We expect the competent institutions, primarily the police, to react urgently and take appropriate measures. However, we believe that responsibility does not lie solely with law enforcement. Broader social responsibility is necessary – from event organizers, through nightclub owners, to every individual.
Such outbursts are not needed by anyone. Nazism is not a problem of only one people or one community – Nazism is a threat to everyone. If we turn a blind eye and relativize such phenomena, we risk repeating the mistakes of the past. In the last war that happened to all of us – everyone suffered.
We are sure that none of us wants to repeat that experience. History – however we call it – we must not forget," the statement from the Jewish Community of Sarajevo said.
