Unique tickets for 40,000 public transport users in Sarajevo

(Patria) - Adnan Šteta, Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, and representatives of KJKP „Gras“ and „Centrotrans – Eurolines“ yesterday signed an agreement on consent to accept tickets for pensioners in their vehicles regardless of whether the tickets were issued by „Gras“ or „Centrotrans“, without imposing additional costs and procedures on users.

Pensioners, who make up almost half of all monthly ticket users in Sarajevo Canton – around 40,000 of them – are the first category that will be able to use a single ticket for both city transport operators. After this first phase, it was agreed that students, high school pupils, the unemployed, and other categories will follow.

"I hope it is now clear to everyone that this Government is mature and brave enough to address one of the key issues for all citizens of Sarajevo Canton during its mandate, namely public city transport. On the other hand, this agreement once again shows that we are a Government that wants to talk and create solutions that take into account all involved parties as much as possible," said Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton Adnan Šteta after signing the agreement.

Yesterday's agreement is the result of successful negotiations by Minister Šteta following concerns expressed by some employees of „Gras“ regarding the decision of the Government of Sarajevo Canton to allow citizens to choose their transport operator with a single monthly ticket for public transport. This is the first agreement signed by the relevant ministry and the two city transport operators. It involves temporary measures until the tariff system and electronic ticket payment are introduced on December 1, 2019.

"The Government of Sarajevo Canton and its relevant ministry are committed to improving the situation in public line transport of passengers in the area of Sarajevo Canton and providing users of public line passenger transport with a higher quality and simpler service, all in accordance with positive legal regulations and the protection of public interest," added Šteta.
