The only restaurant in Bosnia and Herzegovina where nothing has gone up in price for ten years, and where the rich eat!

(Patria) - The restaurant located in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina is probably the only one in BiH, and certainly in Europe, where food and drink prices have not increased in the last ten years.

Although official statistics say that food and drink prices have been constantly rising in the last few years, the Joint Services Office, which manages the restaurant in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, has not changed the prices, Nezavisne novine reports.

Coffee in this restaurant can still be drunk for 0.8 KM, soup for 1 KM, and roast veal for 5.5 KM. Chicken in sesame in this restaurant costs 3.5 KM, while the prices of side dishes such as baker's potatoes, rice, and mashed potatoes are one KM. Also, salads in this restaurant cost one mark, while dessert is one and a half marks. Ćevapi cost four KM, cheese omelette 2.5 KM, cheese pie and potato pie 2 KM, while burek is 2.5 KM, which are prices that could rarely be found even in 2015.

So, a complete meal that includes soup, main course, dessert, and a drink comes to about eight KM, which is by far the cheapest restaurant in BiH, and very likely in Europe.

"Despite the recommendations of the audit, the Service has still not prepared a proposal for a new price list or a new norm. The selling prices of food and drink items were set by the Price List of Meals and Drinks in the Institutions of BiH from 2015, which was adopted by the Council of Ministers of BiH at the proposal of the Service. Every year, the difference between the purchase and selling price of items becomes smaller, which is a consequence of the continuous rise in prices. If we look at the period from 2017 to 2024, significant changes in the purchase prices of items are observed. Also, it was noted that the grammage of ingredients lost during meal preparation is not included in the determination of norms, which has a direct impact on the stated price difference," states the Audit Report of the Joint Services Office of the Institutions of BiH.

Earlier, specifically in October 2022, the Ministry of Finance and Treasury of BiH instructed the Service to review the proposed price increase and prepare a detailed analysis of the justification for the price increase and adjust these prices taking into account retail purchase prices, but the Service never did this. The management of the Service appointed committees at the beginning of 2025 to develop new norms and a new price list for food and drink, but the auditors determined that no deadlines for the completion of the activities of these committees were set.

Consumer protection advocates previously told "Nezavisne novine" that the price lists from the restaurant in the BiH parliament are truly shameful if we consider the incomes of people who have the right to eat there.
