Jaroslav Šilhavý led Czechia to the Euros, then resigned as coach

(Patria) - The coach of the Czech Republic football team, Jaroslav Šilhavý, resigned after qualifying the team for Euro 2024 in Germany.

The Czech Republic qualified for the competition after defeating Moldova 3-0 last night in Olomouc, in the final round of qualifying Group E.

- Although we are happy now, we decided before the match that I would not continue the job. I informed the president (of the Football Association of the Czech Republic) Petr Fousek about this.

The pressure was immense, sometimes I didn't even understand it. That also contributed to the decision - said the 62-year-old Šilhavý, reports BBC.

Šilhavý took over the Czech national team in September 2018 and led them to the quarter-finals of the 2020 European Championship.

He managed the team in 56 matches, achieving 26 wins, suffering 20 losses, and having 10 draws.

Czechia qualified for the Euros as second in the group behind Albania, with both teams earning 15 points in eight matches.

- It's not just about me, I have a whole team behind me. I am convinced that we have done the job and are leaving good results - added Šilhavý.
