(Patria) - An Israeli official says a ceasefire has not been agreed upon in Gaza, after Hamas announced earlier today that it had accepted the proposal of Egyptian and Qatari mediators in the conflict between Israel and Gaza.
According to him, the proposal that Hamas accepted is a "softened" version of the Egyptian proposal that includes "far-reaching" conclusions that Israel cannot accept, reports RSE.
- This appears to be a trick aimed at making Israel look like the side refusing the deal - stated the Israeli official, who wished to remain anonymous.
Hamas announced earlier today that its leader Ismail Haniyeh had informed Qatari and Egyptian mediators that the group had accepted their proposal for a ceasefire. The statement did not provide details of the agreement.
Hamas's announcement of the agreement came hours after Israel ordered the evacuation of parts of Rafah, a city on the southern edge of Gaza that has served as the last refuge for about half of Gaza's 2.3 million residents.
