(Patria) – Israel has carried out strikes on central and western Iran, after Tehran previously fired projectiles toward Israel, further escalating tensions despite a ceasefire in place since April.
Iranian media reported that explosions were heard in Isfahan, Tabriz and Tehran, while details on the scale of the attack have not been disclosed.
Tensions also rose after Iran warned of retaliation for an earlier Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut. Israel claims that Hezbollah previously targeted the north of the country.
Meanwhile, rocket sirens were activated in Saudi Arabia as well, in the Al Kharj area, where the Prince Sultan Air Base with U.S. forces is located. The Israeli military also said it intercepted a projectile launched from Yemen.
Due to the possibility of new attacks, Israel has tightened security measures, restricted public gatherings and canceled classes across the country, while Iran closed the airspace around Imam Khomeini Airport in Tehran.
U.S. President Donald Trump, before the Israeli attack, told the Financial Times that he "will have no choice," emphasizing that he makes the key decisions. The White House has not yet commented on whether the Israeli strikes were carried out in coordination with the United States.
