Izetbegović with EU Council Working Group on Western Balkans delegation: Evident stagnation in BiH's European integration process

(Patria) - SDA President Bakir Izetbegović met today with a delegation of the EU Council Working Group on the Western Balkans (COWEB), with whom he discussed the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the stagnation on our country's European path, and key reform processes.

Special attention was paid to the fulfillment of Bosnia and Herzegovina's obligations on the path to European Union membership, the functioning of state institutions, as well as the challenges burdening overall political relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Izetbegović expressed dissatisfaction due to the evident stagnation in the European integration process, emphasizing that the current government is unable to meet even the minimal conditions necessary for opening accession negotiations with the EU, nor to ensure the withdrawal of funds provided by the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.



One of the topics of discussion was the upcoming General Elections, particularly in the context of introducing modern electoral technologies and ensuring a transparent electoral process.

Izetbegović recalled that the SDA, due to the complete lack of interest from the ruling coalition parties in improving the electoral process, has submitted a Proposal for Amendments to the Election Law of BiH to the parliamentary procedure, which enables the application of new electoral technologies.

Despite this, he added, this process continues to be blocked precisely by the ruling coalition parties.

The meeting also discussed blockades in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, as well as the Southern Gas Interconnection project, which has particular strategic importance for the energy security and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

SDA Vice-President Edin Ramić and SDA Secretary General Halid Genjac also attended the meeting.
