Izetbegović brought the Sarajevo Haggadah for Passover in 1995

Jews have been celebrating the most important holiday of Passover since last night, and in the Jewish Community, this holiday was marked with a Seder dinner and prayer, writes the BH news agency Patria.

It is a holiday celebrated within the family, and during the Seder dinner, all household members gather around a table set with dishes that symbolically recall the enslavement of the Israelites in Egypt and their liberation. The Haggadah is read during the Seder dinner.

This holiday is also called the spring festival and the festival of unleavened bread. The festive table must include poultry roast, fruit, salad, and matzah - unleavened bread, as well as bitter herbs that recall the hard life in Egyptian slavery.

This year in Sarajevo marks the 450th anniversary of the arrival of Jews in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Twenty years ago, Passover was celebrated in Sarajevo in a special way for all Jews.

It was Friday, April 14, 1995, a city without electricity, and the war still raging. About 50 members of the Jewish community headed to the synagogue. At exactly noon, the President of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegović, accompanied by Haris Silajdžić, entered the synagogue. Behind them walked another man carrying a black metal box. Inside it was the Sarajevo Haggadah. Today, the Haggadah is located in the National Museum, which has been closed for the third year.
