Izetbegović on the death of Dr. Pašagić: Everything possible was done

(Patria) - The recently deceased doctor Šefik Pašagić, according to the director of KCUS Prof. Sebija Izetbegović, arrived at the Clinical Center with findings from a private clinic, a CT scan of the chest which showed dramatic bilateral pneumonia and severe enlargement of lymph nodes.

“The infectious disease specialist who admitted him for treatment concluded that the condition was very serious, and immediately suspected coronavirus. Dr. Pašagić said he was negative, he had a previous negative test. The infectious disease specialist placed him in a room where he stayed until the repeat test came in the morning, when the prescribed therapy, the best therapy, was administered. Everything possible was done. Deepest condolences to the family, we believe the public should know the truth,” said the director of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, Dr. Sebija Izetbegović, in an interview with N1.

Will time reveal the "cause of death"?

“I cannot comment on such things. Perhaps pathologists, someone who would process tissue samples, perform an autopsy, could do that. I would not venture into such speculation,” replied Dr. Izetbegović.

Health centers are not well organized

Our healthcare system is not good, claims Dr. Sebija Izetbegović, adding that we should be much better. But it is difficult to fight alone against an established system, she says. She has long claimed to point out the multi-layered nature of the problem.

“I have been saying for a long time that health centers are not well organized, that they will not be able to respond well. One of our doctors' unions, led by a doctor from the General Hospital and a doctor from a Health Center, offered us a donation of protective equipment. We politely said that we were exceptionally well-equipped, but that it would be good to deliver it to the health centers because our colleagues tell us they do not have enough equipment. And they made a media spectacle out of it. We thought that doctors from health centers should receive it, it would be selfish for us to take it. The system is not good, it should be better. Everyone should earn their salaries. The crisis will reveal all the shortcomings of the healthcare system that have been obvious for a long time,” said the director of KCUS, Sebija Izetbegović.

At a recent session of the FŠCZ, it was ordered that the distribution of 150,000 received virus tests be carried out as follows: to the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (90,000 units), the University Clinical Center Tuzla (30,000 units), and the University Clinical Hospital Mostar (30,000 units).

“The tests arrived yesterday. On this occasion, I inform everyone that we have enough tests. The results are solid, they could be better with more restrictive measures. I understand the citizens who oppose it, but I ask them to be patient. This will not pass in the next two months for sure. I believe that the next two months are crucial for the situation that awaits us. We should be much stricter with the measures,” concluded Dr. Izetbegović.
