Izetbegović and Čović to Discuss Restructuring of Federation of BiH Soon!

The Deputy President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović will not officially respond to the statement by Dragan Čović, leader of the Croatian Democratic Union of BiH (HDZ), that the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina should be divided into three territorial units, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

However, as we learn from sources close to Izetbegović, it is more likely that the Bosniak member of the Presidency of BiH will express his position on this to Čović at a meeting that will be held soon. Sources close to Čović could not confirm that a meeting date has been set, but they emphasize that it is possible for the leaders to discuss this directly.

Čović told the portal Klix.ba that "I see no reason why we should not talk very openly about it, three units within the FBiH, which will ensure rationality. Instead of the current 11, to have three governments, instead of 11 parliaments, to have three."

Izetbegović, who is the highest-ranking SDA official in the absence of Sulejman Tihić, has recently begun holding meetings with political leaders of other parties. At the end of January, he had a meeting with the leader of the SDP, Zlatko Lagumdžija, which was also attended by SDA Vice-President Adil Osmanović and SDP Secretary General Nermin Nikšić.
