Ivo Komšić: SPD is not a political party, founding assembly next month

(Patria) - The meeting of the Initiative Committee for the establishment of the Social Democratic Movement ended in Sarajevo after more than two hours. After the meeting concluded, it was announced that the working name of the movement is now Social Justice and Democracy. The Presidency should consist of 25 members, and the assembly will be held in early June.

When asked if it is possible to unite the left and cooperate with the SDA, Ivo Komšić says that the SPD will be a corrective factor, that it will not be a party and will not be in coalition with the SDA, but it will influence public opinion. Komšić stated that no party can control processes on its own. He emphasized that through the idea of the SPD, they want to oppose ethno-nationalist parties "because they cannot be patriotic."

"Democracy is the only way to oppose this, which is why we have 'democratic' in our name. In this proposal, our ultimate goal is for social democratic and left-wing parties to unite because the unification processes have been stalled for four years. The process is stalled, and we will advocate for the unification of these parties," said Komšić.

The session of the Initiative Committee was attended, among others, by the member of the Main Board and former leader of SDP BiH Zlatko Lagumdžija, member of the BiH Presidency and leader of DF Željko Komšić, and his party colleagues Milan Dunović, Zlatko Miletić, and Dženan Đonlagić. Nihad Čolpa attended on behalf of GS.

Also present at the session were Ivo Komšić, Emir Zlatar, Sifet Podžić, Hanka Vajzović, Lamija Tanović, Dževad Bećirević, Lada Sadiković, Zoran Blagojević, Salih Fočo, Hakija Meholjić, Adil Kulenović, Danijela Martinović, Esad Zgodić.

Lamija Tanović left the meeting, stating that she was deceived. Željko Komšić also left the meeting earlier, citing prior commitments.
