Islamic Community Condemns Shameful Erection of Monument to War Criminal Pavle Đurišić in Montenegro

(Patria) - The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina has condemned the shameful erection of a monument to the commander of the Chetnik movement from World War II and war criminal Pavle Đurišić in neighbouring Montenegro.

At the same time, the Islamic Community expresses concern over the dangerous trend of glorifying war crimes, rehabilitating war criminals, open Islamophobia and even racism, which are becoming part of the mainstream political, media, religious and overall social scene among Serbian elites in the Balkans.

This trend, which clearly rests on the spirit of establishing the so-called Serbian world, threatens to further deepen divisions among peoples and states and confirms that the Islamic Community's fear of the realisation of the declaration of the so-called Serbian Assembly was justified. Those who glorify war crimes are preparing a new crime and are ready to repeat it – states the announcement from the Public Relations Office of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in BiH.

The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina has condemned the shameful erection of a monument to the commander of the Chetnik movement from World War II and war criminal Pavle Đurišić in neighbouring Montenegro.

At the same time, the Islamic Community expresses concern over the dangerous trend of glorifying war crimes, rehabilitating war criminals, open Islamophobia and even racism, which are becoming part of the mainstream political, media, religious and overall social scene among Serbian elites in the Balkans.

Therefore, as stated, the Islamic Community demands that all domestic and international actors, especially Bosniak politicians, take these messages seriously and oppose them, and work on policies that will protect Bosniaks and all other peoples in these areas from the reawakened fascism of great-state projects whose bearers no longer hide their hatred towards Muslims.

And while welcoming the reaction of the state authorities of Montenegro in removing the monument to a war criminal who committed horrific crimes against Muslim and Bosniak civilians during World War II, the Islamic Community condemns the role of some religious leaders of the Serbian Orthodox Church who, through their actions, prevent any cooperation among religious communities in this part of Europe – the announcement states.
