Islamic Community Announces Time and Details for Eid al-Fitr Prayer

(Patria) - Tonight at 7:27 PM marks the second to last iftar of this Ramadan, the holy month for Muslims worldwide, who have one more day of fasting left, and then the holiest Islamic holiday - Eid al-Fitr - begins.

As announced by the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eid al-Fitr will be on Wednesday, April 10th, and on that morning, the Eid al-Fitr prayer will be performed in the Sarajevo area at 6:51 AM.

We remind you that Muslims have two great blessed days in their tradition, two Eids – Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Fitr begins on the 1st of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Hijri calendar. Muslims rejoice on this Eid because they have fasted the month of Ramadan, renewed their knowledge, and affirmed their obedience to God. This Eid lasts for three days. On Eid, Muslims visit cemeteries, visit relatives, friends, neighbors, and give charity.

By decision of the Riyaset of the Islamic Community, the second day of Eid al-Fitr has been declared Martyrs' Day.

"It is a day of remembrance for all those who gave their lives defending their families, honor, homeland, and faith. On Martyrs' Day, martyrs' cemeteries are visited, martyrs' families are visited, a khatam is recited for all martyrs, and their noble sacrifice is remembered," states the Riyaset.

Let us also recall that Ramadan is, generally, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar, and its beginning is marked by the appearance of the crescent moon. It is the month in which, it is believed, the revelation of the Quran began.
