(Patria) - Iran has seized a foreign tanker allegedly carrying six million liters of "smuggled diesel" in the Gulf of Oman, Iranian state media reported on Friday, Reuters reports.
Iran, which has some of the lowest fuel prices in the world due to heavy subsidies and the falling value of its national currency, struggles against rampant fuel smuggling overland to neighboring countries and by sea to Arab states of the Persian Gulf.
State broadcaster IRIB did not name the vessel or its nationality on its website.
