(Patria) - Iran has sent a new peace proposal to the United States through Pakistan with the aim of ending the war within 30 days, and plans to transform the existing ceasefire into lasting peace. Details of the latest three-phase Iranian plan are reported by Al Jazeera.
According to sources, the Iranian plan consists of three main phases. The proposal also envisages a non-aggression pact, which would also apply to Israel, to prevent the return of conflict and end the fighting in the entire Middle East. In the first phase, the Strait of Hormuz would be gradually opened and the US blockade of Iranian ports lifted, while Tehran would take responsibility for clearing sea mines.
The latest Iranian proposal, consisting of 14 points, is a response to the nine-point US plan. According to the semi-official Nour News agency, close to Iranian security services, Tehran is seeking the lifting of sanctions from the US, an end to the naval blockade, the withdrawal of US forces from the region, and a halt to all hostilities, including Israel's war in Lebanon.
Although US President Trump rejected the Iranian proposal last week, talks have continued, and the fragile three-week ceasefire appears to be holding.
Amid new diplomatic efforts, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi spoke with his Omani counterpart Badr al-Busaidi today. It is worth recalling that Oman mediated in earlier rounds of negotiations between the US and Iran before the outbreak of the war.
