
An internal investigation has been launched against police officer S.M., who is suspected of physically assaulting and severely injuring 23-year-old student Mehmed Mešanović on the ski slope in Bjelašnica on February 21, the Federal Police Administration confirmed.
According to information obtained by the Patria news agency, the officer is Slaviša Mijanović, who, according to unconfirmed reports, holds a commander position in the FUP.
Mijanović is suspected of hitting Mešanović in the stomach with his ski boots on the Kolijevka slope in Babin Do, Bjelašnica, on the afternoon of February 21. The 23-year-old subsequently had to undergo surgery at the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS), where his gallbladder was removed and his liver was sutured.
- The FUP's Unit for Professional Standards is still undertaking measures and actions within its jurisdiction to gather evidence and establish the facts regarding the incident in question - the FUP stated in its announcement.
A decision on initiating disciplinary proceedings against the police officer will be made upon completion of the internal investigation.
The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office is also involved in the investigation of this case.
