Interactive display of key events, battles, and processes: Web museum of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina presented in Sarajevo

(Patria) - A web museum dedicated to the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was presented today at the Multimedia Center of the Memorial Center Sarajevo in Kovači.

The first digital exhibition with which the museum was officially launched and made available to the public is the exhibition about the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

April was symbolically chosen for the presentation, the month in which the siege began, as well as the organization of the defense of the capital and the country, thus further emphasizing the importance of the culture of remembrance and preserving historical truth.

This is a modern digital platform that treats the past not as a closed chapter, but as a living experience accessible to everyone.

The web museum offers an interactive display of key events, battles, and processes that the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina went through, connecting historical facts with modern technologies.

Through video content, animations, infographics, 360 views, and documentary materials, users can understand complex historical processes in a new and accessible way – from the collapse of the former state to the Dayton Peace Agreement, as well as the present through the Second Infantry Regiment of the Armed Forces of BiH, which inherits the legacy of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- This is a story about a time when the survival of the state was decided, a story about people who, without grand words, took on the greatest responsibility. For a long time, we did not have a place where this story could be seen in its entirety. There were fragments, individual testimonies, valuable records and documents, but not a unified space that connects them and gives them full meaning.

We are trying to do just that with this project. The web museum combines documents, photographs, videos, and personal testimonies into a whole accessible to everyone, especially young people – generations who today discover the world through digital platforms, quickly, visually, and interactively.

If we want them to understand the past, we must bring it closer to them in a way that is familiar to them – said the Director of the Memorial Center Sarajevo, Ahmed Kulanić.

General of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vahid Karavelić, emphasized that this is one of the most significant strategic projects of the Memorial Center Sarajevo.

He stressed that this is just the beginning and that the platform will be further upgraded in the future, including the digitization of archival material.

He particularly emphasized the importance of the project for the educational system, as it will be available to teachers and professors for working with students.

The web museum is particularly focused on young people, students, and researchers, as well as the general public in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, with the aim of introducing them to the historical story in an attractive way and motivating them for further research and visits to the Memorial Center.

The Minister for Veterans' Affairs in the Government of Sarajevo Canton, Omer Osmanović, emphasized that the project will have significant educational value.

According to him, through the web platform and applications, the content will be available to all citizens of BiH and beyond, and users will have the opportunity to virtually visit the Tunnel of Hope Memorial Complex, the War Mosque on Igman, and the Museum of Heroes of the Defensive-Liberation War.

The Commander of the Second Infantry Regiment of the Armed Forces of BiH, Faruk Ganić, also highlighted the importance of preserving the culture of remembrance through modern digital forms.

He noted that the web museum does not represent a space for glorifying war, but for dignified remembrance of the values that marked the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina – unity, courage, responsibility, and faith in freedom.

- If we want the truth to remain alive, we must bring it closer to young people through forms they understand – Ganić stated.

The creator of the web museum, Edin Krehić, said that remembrance makes sense if it makes us better people and that the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be as its citizens are.

He added that the museum is designed primarily for younger generations, to provide them with access to information that has often remained in the background, emphasizing that this segment of education should be accessible to everyone.

This project represents another step forward in the digitalization of the culture of remembrance in Bosnia and Herzegovina and lays the foundation for the further development of content and platforms that will continue to build collective memory.

The project slogan clearly defines its mission: "We preserve the past to educate the future."
