Remains of Six War Victims Identified

(Patria) - The remains of six victims of the recent war have been identified at the city cemetery in Miljevići, municipality of Istočno Novo Sarajevo. These are victims who disappeared during 1992 and 1994 in the areas of Sokolac, Srebrenica, and Goražde, and their remains were exhumed years later at various locations. The identity of the victims was determined through DNA analysis, and their families subsequently officially confirmed the obtained results.

The identified individuals are:

1. Džemila (Salko) Kurtović, born 06/01/1913 in Foča. She disappeared in April 1992 from the Psychiatric Hospital in Sokolac. Her remains were exhumed on 11/06/2013 at the cemetery of the aforementioned hospital.

2. Hasan (Mulo) Suljić, born 04/15/1938 in Zenica. He disappeared on 07/28/1992 from the Psychiatric Hospital in Sokolac. Exhumation was carried out on 12/01/2010 at the cemetery of the Psychiatric Hospital in Sokolac.

3. Šefik (Nedžib) Pecikoza, born 08/22/1968 in Priboj. He disappeared on 12/01/1994 from the Psychiatric Hospital in Sokolac. His remains were found at two locations: part was exhumed on 11/06/2013 at the cemetery of the hospital in Sokolac, while another part was exhumed on 07/22/2013 at the Buća Potok city landfill site in Sarajevo.

4. Vaso (Stevan) Parača, born 04/28/1903 in Danilovgrad. He disappeared on 07/05/1992 in Krnići, municipality of Srebrenica. His remains were exhumed on 05/22/2003 at the site of the burned cooperative home in Krnići.

5. Božana (Đoko) Vukašinović, born 02/03/1922 in Goražde. She disappeared on 05/25/1992 in Gornja Bukvica, municipality of Goražde. Exhumation was carried out on 09/17/2002 at the site of a burned barn in Gornja Bukvica.

6. Milorad (Todor) Vukašinović, born 10/12/1913 in Gornja Bukvica, municipality of Goražde. He disappeared on the same day as Božana Vukašinović, 05/25/1992. His remains were exhumed on 07/08/2002 at the site of a burned family house in Gornja Bukvica.

The Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina continues its work on finding and identifying all persons who are still listed as missing, providing closure to victims and their families after decades of searching.
