(Patria) - The Mayor of Trnovo Municipality, Ibro Berilo, has been released from custody, Istraga.ba has learned.
The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo issued a decision to lift the detention measure, and Berilo will be released from the detention unit of the Zenica Penitentiary in the coming hours.
To recall, Berilo was arrested on August 5 this year by order of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office.
Berilo was arrested in a police operation codenamed "Incitat", and three other individuals were detained along with him.
As announced, those arrested were Nađa Milišić, Assistant Mayor of Trnovo for Geodetic, Property-Legal Affairs and Real Estate Cadastre, Adis Mulaosmanović, who is the founder of the company LOK-PIL d.o.o. Sarajevo, and Edina Džigal.
The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, which ordered the operation, previously reported that it was "a case of systemic corruption in the construction sector and money laundering".
Within this operation, members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) temporarily blocked transactions amounting to KM 610,000.
Berilo had been in custody since then. However, his defense requested a change of the judicial panel.
After the panel was changed, the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo made a decision to release him under certain restrictive measures.
Berilo won the race for a new term in the elections held at the beginning of October, even though he was in custody during the campaign.
