Ibrahim Hadžibajrić awarded European Mayor of the Decade

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Mayor of the Old Town Municipality of Sarajevo, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, was presented with the European Mayor of the Decade award at the selection of the best managers and companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Southeast and Central Europe, held this evening at the Holiday Hotel.

The award was given to Hadžibajrić for the results achieved at the head of the Old Town Municipality of Sarajevo, which he has led since 2008, according to the official website of the Municipality.

In the previous period, Hadžibajrić worked on strengthening and building this local community, developing infrastructure and economy, creating a positive environment for starting businesses, and opening the municipality to major investments. This year alone, investments worth 24 million convertible marks are being realized in the Old Town Municipality, including four capital projects: the construction of the first public underground garage in the Sarajevo Canton, the reconstruction and renovation of the Old Town Health Center, the construction of a sports hall for the "Edhem Mulabdić" Elementary School, and the reconstruction of the Old Town Municipality building. In addition, the reconstruction of the narrower Old Town core is being completed with the renovation of the remaining part of Ferhadija Street and the entire Štrosmajerova Street.

Presenting the projects completed in this municipality, Hadžibajrić said that the bar has been set high.

"We have set the bar high in the high jump, and I would like others to try to be even better and do even more. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, we must understand that things will only get better when we start working ourselves and stop waiting for someone else to help us," said Hadžibajrić.

The award for Mayor of the Year and Decade and European Regional Personality of the Year in Local Government follows after Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić was twice declared the best mayor in Bosnia and Herzegovina, first in 2010 and then in 2018. In 2016, Hadžibajrić was also declared Mayor of the Decade in Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Independent Agency for the Selection and Promotion of the Most Successful Business People and Companies.

The 40th ceremonial awarding of the prestigious Best Manager and Personality of the Year awards was held at the Holiday Hotel this evening.
