This July 13 as well, the Mothers of Srebrenica and surviving genocide victims visited sites of mass executions

(Patria) - As part of the commemoration of the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the UN Safe Area Srebrenica from July 1995, surviving genocide victims also visited mass execution sites this July 13 where their loved ones were killed.

They set off from the Čaršija Mosque in Srebrenica towards the building of the Municipal Court, where they laid flowers and recited the Fatiha for the genocide victims, thus paying their respects. They then visited the building of the old police station in Srebrenica and subsequently headed towards Potočari (the power transmission building) and Budak.

In front of the old police station, an external associate of the Potočari Memorial Center, Ahmo Mehmedović, held a history lesson, stating how many people were killed at that location.

- The most brutal killing happened here, and the police station was supposed to be a place of safety and salvation for all people. Unfortunately, it became a place of mass killings and captivity of Bosniaks. People were killed in their apartments, elderly married couples were killed by Serbian forces, and their bodies were burned - said Mehmedović.

The most emotional moment of today's visit was in Kravica, at the former Agricultural Cooperative, where, according to testimonies of survivors at the Hague Tribunal, about 1,300 men and boys were killed.

The president of the Women's Association "Podrinje" Bratunac, Šuhra Sinanović, said that her husband is one of the 1,300 Bosniaks killed in Kravica.

- My husband, like other victims, was killed in Kravica in the most brutal way. My large family was killed, and I am sorry that there is no memorial in Kravica because the authorities of the Republika Srpska did not allow us to have a marker where our loved ones were killed - said Sinanović.

After Kravica, a visit to the execution sites in Orahovac, Petkovci, Kozluk, Branjevo, and Pilica followed. Each location more horrifying than the last.

The president of the Association "Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa", Munira Subašić, told Fena that today they are visiting twelve locations where Bosniaks were killed in a horrific manner.

- 29 years have passed since the genocide, and the perpetrators do not accept the true truth. They still do not tell the truth to citizens of Serbian nationality, and that is not good for the future. We must fight so that the genocide is not forgotten, and at the same time we must build a better future for all citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina - said Subašić.

A visit to Trnovo, the place where Bosniaks were executed by firing squad, is scheduled for July 17. Several hundred people gather at the visit every year.
